Troop 316 was formed in 1993 with just 5 boys. Through the years, we have seen over 50 scouts go through our program. Our first Eagle was honored in December of 1998. Currently we have three scouts approaching Star Rank who are planning for and ready to start their Eagle Projects.
We have enjoyed numerous adventures. Camping at Kensington Park, Camp Holaka, Colonial Michilimackinaw, Polar Bear camping, and week long camp at Camp Tapico.
We have also gone to Hockey games, football games, (including, the one where Barry reached his 2,000 yards), roller-skating, sledding, many 5 mile hikes and orienteering courses. The scouts have participated in over 300 merit badge sessions.
Service is stressed as an important part of citizenship, therefore, many projects are given to provide them with that opportunity. The service projects benefit those in our area. Service projects include; first aid demo at WalMart, Presenting the Colors at Flint City Hall, Visiting Willowbrook Nursing Home, and the annual Scouting for Food drive. At our host church, we have volunteered as Vacation Bible School help, Planting flower bulbs, working on the pole barn. We also built chin-up bars, picnic tables, four horseshoe pits, birdhouses, and much more.
